In that place, from where we can see the whole valley of Montes Claros the brilliant strategist would have set his headquarters and observed the whole battle which in the 17th of June, 1665 killed hundred s of Spanish and Portuguese soldiers. To their souls the Marquis of Marialva ordered the building of this church and also daily masses to their memory.
Certainly chocked with such mortality, the Marquis of Marialva also built in front of the church a gravestone with a long inscription where he made his vows that such tragedy didn’t repeat in future history of both countries, even if it is an monument evoking a military victory, it is a poem to peace and tolerance which remains throughout the centuries.
Inside the church to underline the retable in white and dark marbles of the second half of the 13th century.
